From self-isolation to lock down

So this isn't week 1 for me, this is week 2 (and a bit) of working from home, running my business, home-schooling my two children (teenager and pre-teen), cleaning the house...constantly, preparing and talking about food...constantly, creating work spreadsheets, food spreadsheets (yes, I have!), and trying to stay positive for myself and everyone around me. It's an interesting time! So far, this week is better than last. My family and I were social distancing from each other in the house due to illness until today and that was tough, we danced around each other which was frustrating, with a few funny moments thrown in. My kids and I had our first group cuddle today in 2 weeks and it was really special! Something we usually take for granted but I hope we won't in the future.

There have been lots of stressful moments over the last two weeks. As an employer, there's been a huge amount of information to digest, holding on calls for 2 hours at a time to have a question answered or not answered, as well as some difficult decisions to be made. Above all, the past few days has mainly been about supporting people, which has been rewarding and very intense. I have always likened being in recruitment to being a counsellor (although I'm not qualified) and maybe my career to date has all been practice for the last couple of weeks and the weeks to follow. I am also very lucky to be surrounded by so many great people too.

But, in all of this chaos, I have to say I'm happy at home. I don't usually have much time between work and family life. So far, I have learnt that my husband can bake (with help), we have a bird's nest in our garden, I'm not so useless with technology, Houseparty is great, I've even set up this blog without the help of my kids! A final story for you today....last night my husband was rooting around in his work bag, packing away for the day. He found a bag of sweets he had squirreled away for his commute on the tube before all of this happened. We jumped around the kitchen as if we had won the lottery, shouting with such happiness. Then he found another bag....a double rollover!! I'll add it to my rations spreadsheet, otherwise the teen and pre-teen will eat the lot!!
